Use this bot to filter real mental health support on ChatGPT

For the first time ever on ChatGPT, our ethical bot uses AI to connect you to real human professionals, communities, and resources - not replace them.

If you’ve spent time online lately, you’ve probably noticed all the AI chatbots claiming to be therapists. They offer quick fixes and easy answers, promising to solve your problems with algorithms. But we know that real mental health support requires empathy, nuance, and human connection-things no code can replicate.

TheMindClan.com started from our own struggles to find help. Our founders have personal experience with ADHD and anxiety, and built this platform because finding support shouldn’t be the hardest part of someone’s journey.

When we saw those “AI therapy” apps popping up, we wanted to use technology differently-to connect people with real mental health support providers across India, not to replace them.

AI Connects You With Real Support, Not Replace It

We’ve created something new: the Therapist and Support Group Referral (no advice) bot on ChatGPT.

This bot does something different-it connects you with real people instead of trying to be your therapist. It provides referrals, not advice. We’re using AI for what it’s actually good at: understanding what you’re looking for in your own words, then helping you find real human professionals, communities, and resources from our network.

We built this free bot because we believe AI should help people find support, not pretend to be that support.

Personal Experiences Drove Our Bot’s Creation

We built this bot because we believe in connecting people with real support.

Shweta, Therapist & Co-Founder: “As a mental health professional, I know how important human connection is in mental health support. AI can’t replace that, but it can help cut through the noise to help people find the right therapist or support group. Our platform has many accessibility layers (dyslexia friendly fonts, dark mode, etc), this bot is just another way to make our growing community easier to access by meeting our users where they are. “

Mani, Techie & Co-Founder: “People are already on ChatGPT looking for support - instead of letting them find questionable ‘AI therapists,’ we wanted to meet them there with something ethical. Talk to a bot that tries to understand what you’re experiencing, and filters our list of 200+ professionals and communities for one that would resonate most with you. The bot’s way of referring you to support providers is almost ‘magical’ to see.”

Natural Language Searches Find Relevant Resources

You can talk to the bot in your own words, and it will help you find options from our directory of 200+ professionals and 50+ support communities.

What might take hours of manual browsing on our platform can be accomplished in minutes with the bot’s intelligent filtering - helping you find someone you truly resonate with much faster.

Try asking:

  • “Can you find me a therapist who works online for anxiety?”
  • “Can you find me a queer support group that meets online?”
  • “What helplines can I talk to right now?”

Privacy Protections Guide Our Bot’s Design

Building this tool wasn’t simple. We wanted to make sure we got it right:

  • Your Privacy: We cannot view the conversations between you and our CustomGPT. When you reach out to a therapist suggested by our bot, you become just another user of our platform, and we do not know what questions you asked to reach there. ChatGPT can still view your chat, though we specified that no conversation with this bot should be used to train the model.
  • Human Curation: Every referral comes from our directory of providers we’ve gotten to know over time. Our curation process includes questionnaires, peer checks, and conversations, and can take up to two months.
  • Helplines: Our team personally check the helplines we’ve suggested, as we want to try our best to only suggest helplines that are actually known to pick up your call. It is important to acknowledge that helplines across the globe get overwhelmed with phonecalls, and can have funding issues that come in the way of offering care. So checking if they’re actually active is just one tiny step in the process of you finding care.

Smart Technology Simplifies Finding Support

The bot is designed to make finding support simpler:

  • Smart Search: When you describe what you need, the bot searches our directory based on location, concerns, online/offline options, fees, and other needs.
  • Filters: It can find specific matches, like a queer-affirmative therapist in Mumbai or an online support group for anxiety.
  • Backup System: If the search has issues, the bot has access to a fallback list of resources to still provide helpful suggestions.

Crisis Situations Trigger Immediate Helpline Responses

If you express feelings of distress, hopelessness, or thoughts of self-harm, the bot will try to:

  • Immediately share helpline information: Instead of therapist recommendations
  • Not ask follow-up questions: Just provide resources right away
  • Include current date and time: In crisis responses
  • End conversations: If users show intent to harm others

Ethical Boundaries Define The Bot’s Purpose

We’ve tried to design this bot to follow these rules:

  • Should not give therapy or advice: The bot is designed to connect people with resources, not provide therapy or mental health advice
  • Should not make promises: It’s designed to avoid making claims about outcomes or effectiveness
  • Should not make up resources: It should only use inclusive therapists, support groups, helplines, and resources from our platform’s directory
  • Should be clear about being AI: It’s designed to identify itself as an AI assistant that may make mistakes

Four Simple Steps Connect You With Providers

Once you receive a suggestion from the bot:

  • Visit the link: To the provider’s profile on TheMindClan.com
  • Fill out the form: With your contact information and what you’re looking for
  • Get their contact details: By email
  • Reach out directly: To the provider or resource

After we make the introduction, we step back-you’ll work directly with the provider, not through us.

Corporate Partnerships Fund Our Free Platform

Our platform is free for anyone looking for support. Here’s how we keep it running:

  • We work with organizations: On mental health workshops and workplace wellbeing programs
  • No cost to users: We try to support ourselves through corporate workshops and asking our community of care providers for a pay-what-you-can support, but we do not take any referral or kickback fees from users. This bot is entirely self-funded, and isn’t something we charge for.
  • We’re a small team: Focused on making mental health support more accessible
  • Independent providers: Everyone in our directory runs their own practice.
