Reimagining Body Liberation

Description: The new year comes with new goals. For many of us, this takes the form of some kind of goal around the body- whether related to diet, exercise, or general health. But while setting our goals, we might overlook the strengths within us already- the ways our body and mind support us in our everyday lives. This session will provide a space for participants to recognize, explore and honour the strengths and support that is already within. It will be conducted through movement, dance, arts, and discussion. No prior experience of dance, movement, or art is required to participate in this session. Who is your support group for? - Anyone above the age of 18 who wants to reconnect with and have a more positive relationship with their body.

The above section helps us continue curating resources on our platform.

Who is your support group for? - Anyone above the age of 18 who wants to reconnect with and have a more positive relationship with their body.

Structure/flow and activities of the sessions: i. Introduction, community guidelines, check-ins ii. A brief movement activity for participants to connect with the body, and ground themselves in the present moment iii. Movement or art-based activity on the topic of the session iv. Reflections and discussion v. Relaxing, grounding, and self-soothing vi. Feedback, debrief, and conclusion What do you hope for participants in your group to take back with them after the session? - Enhanced feeling of connection with the body; a more caring and compassionate relationship with one’s body and oneself; experiencing the unique creativity in the body; a sense of liberation Any instructions or protocols to keep in mind: Preparation Required:

  1. Carrying a bottle of water
  2. Wearing comfortable clothing
  3. It would be helpful if participants could be in a private space where they can move freely, and keep their videos on. It does not need to be a very big space but should allow for movement.

Trigger Warning: Working with the body can often get triggering or overwhelming, as the body is deeply connected with trauma we might have experienced. Acknowledging this, the first section of the session will focus on grounding. Participants are also requested to go through One Future Collective’s list of grounding techniques. They can choose to reach out to the facilitators for support or to take a break from the session at any point if they feel uncomfortable.
