Who is it for? Experiencing occasional anxiety is a natural part of life. However, if you frequently experience intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations, this group is for you. If you find that feelings of anxiety and panic interfere with your daily activities, are challenging to control, are disproportionate to the actual danger, and you may avoid places or situations to prevent these feelings, the group can assist. Note: This group is not recommended for severe cases of anxiety or any case where there are other co-morbid conditions.
A Snapshot of the Schedule: Session 1 - Introduction to the group and concept of anxiety ● Understanding our relationship with Anxiety: Identifying signs and symptoms (thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and bodily symptoms) ● Evaluating the impact of anxiety on various aspects of life (work, daily activities, leisure) ● Exploring anxiety from different perspectives (scientific/neuro-biological/evolutionary perspective) Session 2 & 3 - Learning the gold standard treatment for anxiety ● Recognizing and externalizing our Anxiety: Identifying Automatic Negative Thoughts, Cognitive Distortions, triggers, and Mental Chatter ● Gaining deeper insight into understanding anxiety from different perspectives (neuro-biological/evolutionary perspective) Session 4 & 5 - Confronting anxiety head on ● Mapping Our Anxiety: 5P’s ● Assessing the impact and influence of anxiety on other emotions ● Introduction to harnessing our brain and body to overcome anxiety Session 6 - Moving Forward ● Strategies for coping with Anxiety ● Identifying Strengths & Exceptions ● Developing a Trigger Plan ● Practicing Grounding exercises ● Mindfulness ● Somatic Exercises
