I chose to become a counsellor because mental health is important to me and I would like to work in this area helping people with their mental health issues and spreading the awareness and importance of mental health.
The various clients and the issues that I come across, when a client gives me a feedback that the sessions are helping them. Trying to break the stigma associated with counselling - the trust my clients place in me. Being there for my clients. All this excites me
I hope my clients can experience a space that is non judgemental and free of criticism. They should feel good that they were able to talk to some one freely.
I would tell the client that counselling is a process and the client should not expect to find all the answers in one session. I speak about my method of counselling, I speak about the confidentiality and tell the client that these sessions would be about them and we will set counselling goals together and revisit goals, explore and become more aware of the self and above all that it is a safe space and anytime the client is feeling the counselling is not working or is uncomfortable about a particular discussion to let me know immediately.
Same as above - including not pushing the client to take medication or do things that the client is uncomfortable doing. taking things slowly as per the clients comfort levels.
sometimes clients need to just listen and they want us to empathise with them - sometimes all they need is to accept the situation and find positive copying strategies. Acceptance of self is very important.
I am Empathetic, A good listener, I am open to feedback, Keep communication channels open with my client for times of emergencies, I am able to keep an open non judgmental mindset. I help clients draw their boundaries and respect themselves.
Read detective novels or watch detective series.
My approach is more eclectic. I start with personal centred therapy and weave in CBT and narrative techniques. Self- Awareness and Self Reflections to understand ones own thoughts, feelings, behaviour and how they are influencing the client. Looking at positive affirmations and increasing the self - esteem and self confidence through tools and techniques borrowed from various therapies.
I strive to create a safe therapeutic space where clients can explore their identities freely discussing positive aspects of their identity and challenges they face.
Empowering the client to handle societal challenges such as misgendering or discrimination, and support them in building resilience against internalized queerphobia/transphobia. Equipping them with tools and techniques to deal with the trauma. Building their identity and self-acceptance which in turn will lead to higher self confidence. I also encourage clients to self advocate for themselves whenever possible. Encouraging clients to join support groups will also render a sense of safety and support.
In order to increase my knowledge and practice I reach out to other colleagues for information, read relevant articles and resources and also seek supervision.

We've developed a curation process over 7+ years, which allows us to carefully curate each inclusive and affirming mental health provider listed on our platform.
We have come a long way since we started in 2018, and have been adapting our curation process every day. From the time a therapist or support group reaches out to us, it takes about 1 - 2 months to complete the process.
We launched TheMindClan.com because we know firsthand how challenging it can be to find support for ourselves and our loved ones. We know that experiences of neurodivergence (like dyslexia, ADHD, autism, etc), or being from a marginalized community (LGBTQIA+, etc), can make it especially challenging to find support.
We understand the overwhelming feeling of scrolling through endless lists, wondering whom to trust, and not knowing what to expect.
If you appreciate our mission of making mental health care accessible and inclusive, and would love to bring this to your organization or collaborate with us, we'd be delighted to hear from you!
