  • What Is Conflict and Emotional Management Group About?
We understand that healthy relationships take effort! We help you develop improved communication within relationships, better emotional regulation, and healthier ways to cope with stress alone. Our group sessions focus on the teaching and adoption of various skills, like improved interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management, increasing distress tolerance, core mindfulness, and more, in a group setting. This format, emphasising structured guidance, recognises the importance of behavioural activation and stretching your patterns of thinking as a way to work towards your wellbeing.
  • What is your founding story?

We are two psychotherapists who have been practising in the varying capacities of a mental health professional within the purview of clinical psychology. Our current project is motivated by the psychotherapeutic groups that we co-facilitated together during our time working within hospital-based psychiatric OPDs. We didn’t just find our work meaningful and impactful; rather we found that these groups were instrumental in helping us navigate the philosophies that guide our current initiative.

We believe our lives are constantly “under construction” and life is lived at its most when we truly engage with this process. We understand everyone’s life as a unique experience placed in the larger context of their surroundings. We believe that who we are is as much a part of the larger social system as it is a part of us. Anchoring our practice within these philosophies we provide a therapeutic space that not only moves one in their preferred direction but also one that encourages us to relate with care and concern towards others.

Notes: The above information may change from time to time, and is shared with you to understand the background of where the support group comes from.
  • When was your support group founded? How has the journey been since then?
Unheard Sagas started in 2019. We started this journey online, anxious, and unsure, and 3 years later, we stand with immense confidence knowing that our online spaces have not just improved in providing mental healthcare but have also been essential to the wellbeing of many during the pandemic and beyond. The journey has been one of learning, self-discovery as well as growth. The groups we have run have pushed us to further include increased elements of lived experiences in our personal lives as well as the group members as core to our therapeutic work. We have actively engaged in receiving extensive feedback for our groups which has helped us tweak the aspects that don’t work or those that work best. This has helped individualize groups and meet outcomes as desired by the group.
  • Who is your support group for?
For anyone who resonates with our group.
  • Explain your group's approach towards helping a person's mental health care.

Unheard Sagas is a platform intended to make Mental Health Care accessible and affordable by creating a community of support for achieving well-being. We believe everyone’s life is a unique experience placed in the larger context of their surroundings. Anchoring our practice within this philosophy we are providing group therapeutic spaces to encourage one another to relate with care and concern towards others.

Vision: To enhance well-being and self-awareness by creating a community of shared and unheard experiences. Mission: To facilitate mutual sharing within the walls of a therapeutically facilitated safe space.

Aim: To create a group therapy platform for deeper connections and overall well-being.

  • What is your group's approach towards professional mental health care interventions?
We have trained responders (i.e the facilitators themselves are mental health professionals) within the group space that help facilitate growth within a therapeutic framework. Each group member’s history and comfort are sought before helping them join a group. This ensures that the facilitators are aware and conscious of how each group member may experience interventions and possible obstacles. We try our best to provide whatever assistance is required by the group members (within the bounds of a therapeutic relationship) to make their experience more productive. For eg: Some group members may be encouraged to seek individual help alongside or before seeking group interventions to prepare them better to receive benefits from the group. To ease this process, we also help group members find an individual therapist by providing an extensive list of trusted professionals.
  • What conversations is your support group not equipped to support?
We currently do not include group members who are actively struggling with suicidality. As we are not a crisis intervention group, we check for the same during our intake call. We then help the client who maybe struggling with suicidality receive care either from a private professional or from a crisis management organisation before they can join the group. This ensures their and the group members well-being and safety
  • How does one sign up? What’s the coordination process like?

To join the group we have a 3-step process:

      1. Fill the form
      1. Contact call (intake) with facilitators
      1. Joining the group.
  • Walk us through the average format of your group session.
Check in (ice breaker); Discussion/ Activity; Closing
  • What are your home rules/values?

    Home rules

We are consistently driven to work within the framework of our core values and principles. These are reflected not just in our facilitation process within group therapy but are also values we use to work with each other and as well as others. We are guided by the APA guidelines of ethics and use these to anchor our work.

Beneficence and Non-maleficence Our constant endeavour is to protect the rights and welfare of those with whom we work professionally. In order to achieve this we often encourage and keep each other in check to ensure that we are always working towards reducing our own biases as well as prejudices to provide an affirmative and safe space for all.

Fidelity and Responsibility. We believe in making all our work accountable. All our groups include two facilitators, we encourage clients to provide us with feedback and we consistently work towards reducing any ethical dilemmas that may arise in our work.

Integrity and justice: We are always in the process of creating open and honest lines of communication with those involved in our work. Furthermore, we ensure quality work by keeping ourselves updated, informed and well versed with the latest advances in the field and try to use the benefits of the same with all our clients.

Respect for People’s Rights and Dignity Our work is respectful of everyone’s right to dignity, privacy, and confidentiality. We also keep ourselves well versed with concerns of various vulnerable and minority populations and are open and honest to learning more each step of the way. Through this we ensure that we are respectful as well as affirmative of the lived experiences of those with whom we work professionally as well personally.

They should also strive to minimize their own biases as well as be aware of issues related to diversity and the concerns of particular populations.

The person will not be included in the group, emergency contact can be reached to or individual therapy for working on the concerns can be offered.

  • What do you hope for participants in your group to take back with them after a session?

We hope that our members will take back the following benefits after a few sessions:

    • Stay calm and steer clear of unhelpful thoughts
    • Control their impulses and regulate their overwhelming emotions
    • Effectively communicate, listen, and respect themselves and others
    • Increase comfort with emotional vulnerability
    • Hone strategies to accept themselves, their emotions, and other life circumstances
    • Skills like improved interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management, increasing distress tolerance and core mindfulness
