  • What Is Burnout, Fatigue and Hope in Civil Society About?
Within civil society, burnout and fatigue can be all too familiar. Through this space we explore these challenges and find hope.
  • What is your founding story?
At One Future Collective (OFC), under The Healing Liberation Project [HLP] which is a community oriented intervention with an aim to promote healing, connection, learning, unlearning and growth. This project was born out of a realization that existing mental health frameworks often fail to encompass the holistic needs of individuals, often reflecting a lens rooted in colonial perspectives. Recognizing the critical role of communities in fostering psychological safety, we felt compelled to create spaces that nurture collective healing and empowerment. The desire to provide spaces aligned with this theme stems from the experiences of own OFC community and a shared aspiration to cultivate safe havens that cater to the diverse needs of our community members seeking holistic well-being.
  • When was your support group founded? How has the journey been since then?
These spaces are run under One Future Collective’s Healing and Liberation Project.
  • Who is your support group for?

Since 2017, One Future Collective has been actively holding spaces for the communities that we work with, including book clubs and healing circles. Initially launched as an extension of One Future Collective’s COVID-19 Mental Health Project, which provided support to frontline workers, the Healing Liberation Project transitioned into an ongoing initiative. Over the past five years, One Future Collective has curated safe spaces tailored to specific communities, including queer individuals and survivors of gender-based violence. With an emphasis on nurturing healing, growth, reflection, and unlearning, these spaces have positively impacted over 25,000 individuals.

Each space offers opportunities for connection, rest, joy, and solidarity, striving for inclusivity and accessibility through suggested fees, discounted packages, and financial aid options.

The goal is to strengthen community building, promote connections and rest. Through these spaces we wish to create a nurturing environment where individuals can find communities supporting their healing and growth.

  • Explain your group's approach towards helping a person's mental health care.
Our spaces have been customised to specific target groups that we work with, including but not limited to, queer folks, survivors of gender-based violence, individuals with mental health illnesses, youth, people working in civil society etc.
  • What is your group's approach towards professional mental health care interventions?

Our collective and the space approaches mental health care through a community-centered and trauma informed lens that acknowledges the significance of collective healing and support systems in fostering psychological well-being.

    1. We prioritize community-oriented healing processes, recognizing the pivotal role that a supportive community plays in an individual’s mental health journey. Our spaces are designed to create safe, inclusive environments where individuals can find solace, support, and solidarity within a nurturing community.

    2. Our approach acknowledges and addresses trauma’s impact on mental health. We provide safe spaces that consider the effects of trauma, ensuring individuals feel secure and supported in their healing journey.

    3. Our approach embraces intersectionality and inclusivity. We understand that mental health is deeply intertwined with various identities and experiences, and our spaces cater to diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. We strive to create environments where everyone feels respected, seen, and heard.

    4. We advocate for mutual care within our spaces. Participants not only receive support but are encouraged to contribute and invest in the well-being of the community.

    5. Beyond traditional approaches to mental health care, our approach is holistic. We recognize that mental health is interconnected with physical, emotional, and social well-being. Our spaces encompass various modalities, including art-based sessions, sharing circles, movement-based activities, and discussions on contemporary issues, catering to diverse aspects of well-being.

    6. We aim to provide accessible spaces that affirm individuals’ identities and experiences. Our hybrid models of online and offline spaces ensure accessibility for all. Additionally, our suggested fees, financial aid options, and discounted packages aim to make these spaces inclusive and accessible to everyone.

    7. Our spaces focus not only on healing but also on personal growth and empowerment. Participants are encouraged to explore self-expression, build connections, and engage in activities that foster personal development within a supportive environment

  • What conversations is your support group not equipped to support?
Our spaces are designed to foster supportive and inclusive environments for collective healing and growth. While we prioritize creating safe spaces for open dialogue, there are specific conversations our spaces are not a replacement for professional clinical therapy or treatment. We do not offer one-on-one therapy or clinical interventions. These spaces are not for immediate crisis management or emergency interventions. Our space does not offer medical diagnosis or treatment plans. Our healing circles emphasize community-driven support and coping mechanisms
