As part of her fellowship at Pause for Perspective, Zahida has started this initiative to offer a safe space for Kashmiri women to share their experiences and stories of living in a conflict region. Zahida is significantly invested and interested in this because she too grew up in Kashmir amidst the conflict.
Our approach is narrative based and we believe that people are always responding. Our hope is to hold a safe and non-judgemental space for how Kashmiri women’s experiences and intend to discuss how we feel, think, support, and survive in the most militarised region in the world.
As the facilitator is a trained mental health professional who works at a mental health organisation, she can refer group members to trusted professionals in case any group member needs professional help.
Typically the session starts with greetings and brief check-in. This is followed by introducing prompts to explore the topic with reference to their experiences of the conflict. Towards the end, we summarize the session and check-in with all the members.
