Get To Know Revati:

  • Why did you choose to become a counsellor?

My fascination with the human mind began in 11th grade with my first psychology textbook; it answered questions I didn’t even know I had. This sparked an unyielding curiosity to understand the human psyche. I naturally found myself listening intently and offering support to friends and family. Becoming a counsellor, therefore, felt like the most innate and natural path for me.

  • What excites you about your work as a counsellor?

What excites me most about my work are the unique life stories my clients share. While every individual is distinct, I often witness the shared human experience in their struggles, reminding me of our collective journey. I also love celebrating their small wins as they navigate challenges, fostering growth and deeper self-discovery.

  • What do you hope for your clients to experience after their first session with you?

What I truly hope clients experience from our first session is the sense of being heard and seen. My aim is for them to feel motivated and curious enough to embark on their journey towards a healthier mind and improved well-being.

  • What would you wish to tell a client who is thinking about seeking counselling?

I understand this first step can be intimidating and overwhelming. Still, come as you are, and with time, you’ll find a space where you can allow yourself to be comfortable with exactly who you are! It’s a common misconception that therapy is one-sided. In reality, it’s a shared and collaborative space. This means your voice matters immensely. If something doesn’t feel quite right, or if you have questions, there’s always room to discuss it openly. Nothing is off-limits or off-topic; this is your journey, and we’ll navigate it together.

  • Describe the relationship that you would wish to build with your client in counselling.

I believe everyone’s therapeutic journey is unique and so therapy, must be tailored to the client’s needs. In order to make therapy collaborative, I make sure to encourage my clients to give their feedback from time to time. This approach I have found to be effective in creating not only a curious mindset, but also fosters power of choice for my clients.

  • In your counselling work so far, what has been your greatest learning from your clients?

In the field of psychology, we often hear that the client is the greatest teacher, a truth I’ve truly understood through my one-on-one work. Every client has taught me invaluable lessons, from holding hope in difficult times to demonstrating incredible resilience. Their personal stories frequently inspire me, constantly pushing me to grow both personally and professionally. I see true collaboration of the therapeutic relationship in this sense as well, that my clients have been equally capable in moving and changing me!

  • What are some of your strengths as a counsellor that you value and appreciate?

I value my capability of offering a feeling of safety and trust to my clients, along with the gentle invitation to be curious about themselves.

  • What are some of the things you like to do in your free time?

When I’m not buried in my therapy books, I love to cook new elaborate recipes and listen to music!

  • What is the therapeutic approach you use? How would you describe it to someone who wants to consult you for therapy?

My therapeutic approach is person centred. This means that my clients take the lead in exploring their own thoughts, feelings and experiences. I facilitate this process by creating a safe and non-judgemental space, offering directions when required. My approach is also informed by working with various parts that form the Self, increasing the client’s understanding of their Self and facilitating intention in their life.

  • How do you make your therapeutic practice a safe and affirmative space for queer and trans* folx?

In order to make the therapeutic space intersectional and queer affirmative, I engage myself in various trainings, courses and support groups. It helps me get a better understanding of the unique life stressors that they may struggle with. I am a believer in the narrative of lived experiences above everything else, and this attitude helps me to always keep learning, no matter the source.

  • The Quote Revati Resonates With

“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lies our freedom and power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom”
