In the world today, we are holding collective grief, loneliness and exhaustion. The exhaustion comes from the constant expectation to do tasks, and go from one thing to another even we grieve the losses we see in the world around us. Many of us live in autopilot mode without being fully present to our emotional and bodily experience of life. We might find these expectations living within us that make it hard for us to be compassionate to ourselves. Do you feel it’s easier to be kinder to loved ones than it is to be kind to oneself?

Self-compassion allows us to make mistakes, be less judgmental and let go of the perfectionist voice in our minds. Self-compassion is a way of relating to ourselves kindly and embracing ourselves as we are. Arts-based therapy can be a powerful way of practicing mindful self-compassion by getting to know ourselves, connecting to others and enabling healing.
This is a part of a series of workshops - Nurturing Compassion through Art. This workshop series will explore different forms of Compassion - tender, loving, fierce compassion from a Social Justice lens. We view compassion as a form of resistance - whether it’s towards oneself, others or the systems we live in.
