That therapy is about the right fit and they get to choose that. Most clients enter therapy from a lens of going to the expert, I usually share that I am a mental health expert and you are the expert of your life and we are in this journey together.
I intend on breaking the dominant discourses of viewing actions, behaviors and emotions as “symptoms” and the therapist being at a pedestal that they “know it all.” I do so through collaboration, working on client’s personal agency to reclaim their life.
My therapuetic approach is drawn from different schools of thought with Narrative Therapy being a primary lens. A person is not a problem, a problem is a problem which is often rooted in structural systems of family, politics and history. My therapuetic style is aimed at exploring multiple stories to a person than one dominant story (single story.)
