Grief is not a problem to be fixed. It is neither a disease to be cured. Grief is an experience, an emotion, a journey… it shifts and changes, like an amoeba - sometimes heavy, sometimes quiet.
We feel a need to rush it, end it but what it needs is spaces and places to breathe, to be loud, sad, painful, big and exist. We need ways to easen and soften it for us so that we can carry all of it.
Thehraav is a children’s book anchored support group where we hope for all of our grief to find gentle companionship, acknowledgement and community support. Children’s books are a true anchor in helping us sit, move, play, and cry through our loss. It also supports us in forming our own meaning of these life-altering experiences that shook our realities and continue to do so.
With support from the lens of a trauma-informed approach, this space welcomes you with your rawness, openness and vulnerabilities with care. In this journey, we hope children’s books carry your grief while other people in the community gently hold space for you and for themselves.
Thank you for reading this through. We hope to see you in Thehraav.
